IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS All of the safety and operating instructions should be read, adhered to and followed before the unit is operated. Safety and Handling Information For maximum product life, do not drop, throw, or crush the speaker. Do not expose it to humidity, dust, or operating temperatures outside 32°F to 113°F (0°C to 45°C). Avoid charging it in temperatures above 113°F (45°C). Save these instructions! DANGER To reduce the risk of electric shock, burns, fire or injury: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The battery must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local waste management office for information on battery recycling or disposal. USB Adapter (not shown) Top 10 11 Front SET UP Charging the Battery Note: Before first use, the battery must be fully charged. 1. Slide the main power switch to the ON position. 2. Insert the USB adapter's mini USB connection into the speaker's USB port. 3. Plug the USB adapter into your computer's USB port or wall outlet. 4. T he 2 LEDs flash blue while the battery is charging (charge time - 3 to 4 hours on a depleted battery). The LEDs turn solid blue when the battery is fully charged. Pairing Bluetooth® Devices Pair your Bluetooth® device to the speaker when you turn the speaker on for the first time. The speaker pairs with devices that use the Bluetooth® Hands Free Profile (HFP) and/or the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). HFP enables hands-free communication and the A2DP dictates how audio is streamed from one device to another over a Bluetooth® connection. When you pair devices to the speaker, the devices operate according to their protocols. For example, when you pair a smartphone to the speaker, it handles calls and plays music since it has both the H2P and A2DP protocols. MP3 players with Bluetooth® and A2DP only play music and cell phones (not smartphones) only handle calls. Pairing Mode 1. Slide the main power switch to the ON position. 2. P ress and hold pairing mode. until the 2 LEDs flash red and blue rapidly. Now you are in Pairing 1. Prepare your Bluetooth® V2.0 device (mobile phone or music player) to pair. 2. S elect the Searching mode on your Bluetooth® device (refer to your Bluetooth® device's owner's manual for details if necessary). 3. Y our Bluetooth® device should find "Big Blue Live"; select it and, if prompted, use 0000 as a pin for a pairing code. 4. V erify that you are connected to the speaker. The Bluetooth® LED on the speaker will change to a solid blue when pairing is complete. LED state Chart The 2 LEDs under the speaker provide visual cues to different processes. Below is a chart to check the status of the speaker. Color State Solid On Blue Flashing Meaning Power is on. Slow Flash - Battery is charging. Fast Flash - Lost Bluetooth® connection. Solid On Bluetooth® is connected, but battery level low. Flashing Power low and Bluetooth® not connected. Blue and Red Flashing Pairing mode. Blue and Red Off Power is off. Red SPEAKER OPERATION 1. W hen you want to turn on the speaker, remember to slide the main power switch to the ON position. 2. Press and hold for at least 3 seconds. A "power on" tone sounds. 3. T he LEDs flash blue slowly while looking for Bluetooth® devices. It illuminates solid blue only when Bluetooth® devices are discovered; otherwise, it keeps flashing. 4. T o turn the speaker off, press and hold beep tones. until you hear the descending 10 SPECIAL FEATURES Play Music through a Wired Connection You can still play music through the speaker even if your music device does not have Bluetooth® capabilities and is not paired to the speaker. You can physically connect your music device to the speaker with a 3.5mm mini-jack cable (not included). 1. P lug one end of the cable into your music device, just like you would a pair of headphones. 2. P lug the other end of the cable into the speaker's 3.5mm port labeled AUDIO IN. 3. U se your music device to start and control music playback and volume through the speaker. Note: The following restrictions apply when you are playing music through a wired connection: • If both a Bluetooth® device and a wired device are connected to the speaker, the Bluetooth® device will take priority over the wired device. • The speaker does not control the wired device; it only plays music through a wired connection. 11 Basic Cell Phone Operation When you have an incoming call, the speaker sounds an incoming call tone and the LEDs flash blue. Both the speaker and your cellphone may ring, depending on your cellphone settings. Below is a chart of how to handle calls. To... Do this... Answer an incoming call. Press the answer key on your phone. Reject an incoming call. Press and hold End a call. Press Switch between the speaker and your cell phone. Press and hold Redial the last number dialed. From standby, press during an active call. twice. If, while you are listening to music, your phone rings and you answer the call, the music will fade and only your call will be audible. When you hang up the call, your music selection will then increase in volume and continue from where it had stopped. 12 Call Waiting You can receive call waiting notification when your cellphone is paired to the speaker. The LED flashes and the speaker sounds an alert tone. Below is a chart of how to handle call-waiting calls. Note: Your cellphone must subscribe to Call Waiting service to use these features; contact your telephone provider for more information. To... Do this... twice. Basic Music Operation When you pair a Bluetooth® music player to the speaker, you can control operation through the speaker. Below is a chart on how to operate the speaker for audio. To... Do this... Play/Pause music. Press Note: When you stop or pause the music playback, the music resumes at the same volume level after you press Skip to the next track. Press Fast forward. Press and hold Skip to the previous track. Press Rewind. Move back into connection range and turn the speaker off and back on to reconnect to your Bluetooth® device. Note: The speaker automatically syncs to the last device connected. If you need to reconnect to the first device that was connected, reconnect it manually. Sound is not clear or there is no sound at all. Turn the speaker off and then back on. Turn off your music device's equalizer. heck the speaker or Bluetooth® device volume level. Music won't play on the speaker. Make sure your Bluetooth® device has A2DP. Check if both devices are connected. urn the speaker off and then back on to autoT connect with your Bluetooth® device. Note: The speaker automatically syncs to the last device connected. If you need to reconnect to the first device that was connected, reconnect it manually. 16 TROUBLESHOOTING Issue Solution The speaker volume controls are not working. Change the volume from your Bluetooth® device. If your music device is wired into the speaker, you cannot change the volume through the speaker. Check the battery level. No LEDs illuminating and no power. Make sure the speaker's MAIN POWER is turned on. Make sure the speaker is charged. Sound is too low/too much distortion. Turn off your Bluetooth® device's equalizer. Phone call not answered by speaker. Verify that both devices are connected. Adjust the speaker or Bluetooth® device volume level. Make sure your cellphone has HFP. Restart the speaker to auto-connect with your Bluetooth® device. Music doesn't play after hanging up a call. Press Speaker doesn't control the music. Make sure your Bluetooth® device has AVRCP. 17 to resume music. Notes 18 One (1) Year Limited Warranty Big Blue Audio® warrants this product against defects in materials and/or workmanship under normal use for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of purchase by the original purchaser ("Warranty Period"). If a defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option, Big Blue Audio will either 1) repair the defect at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, or 2) replace the product with a new product that is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or 3) provide a store credit in the amount of the purchase price of the original product. A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part installed in accordance with instructions provided by Big Blue Audio, assumes the remaining warranty of the original product. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes Big Blue Audio's property. When a store credit is given, the original product must be returned to Big Blue Audio and becomes Big Blue Audio's property. Obtaining Service: To obtain warranty service, call Big Blue Audio Limited Warranty Service at 1-800-292-9819. Please be prepared to describe the product that needs service and the nature of the problem. A purchase receipt is required. All repairs and replacements must be authorized in advance. Service options, parts availability and response times will vary. You are responsible for delivery and the cost of delivery of the product or any parts to the authorized service center for replacement, per our instructions. Limits and Exclusions: Coverage under this Limited Warranty is limited to the United States of America, including the District of Columbia and the U.S. Territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This Limited Warranty applies only to products manufactured for Big Blue Audio that can be identified by the "Big Blue Audio" trademark, trade name, or logo affixed to them or their packaging. The Limited Warranty does not apply to any non-Big Blue Audio products. Manufacturers or 19 suppliers other than Big Blue Audio may provide their own warranties to the purchaser, but Big Blue Audio, in so far as permitted by law, provides these products "as is." This warranty does not apply to: a) damage caused by failure to follow instructions relating to product's use or the installation of components; b) damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, fire, floods, earthquake or other external causes; c) damage caused by service performed by anyone who is not a representative of Big Blue Audio; d) accessories used in conjunction with a covered product; e) a product or part that has been modified to alter functionality or capability; f) items intended to be periodically replaced by the purchaser during the normal life of the product including, without limitation, batteries or light bulbs; g) any product sold "as is" including, without limitation, floor demonstration models and refurbished items; or h) a product that is used commercially or for a commercial purpose.
